People are being killed and some becoming very sick as clusters of cancer are appearing in Australia and many other parts of the world caused by Electromagnetic Radiation – Silent Fields in small but lethal doses.

This issue that I am talking on today is bigger than the cigarette smoking issue – not all people smoke and it is by choice. This issue is also bigger than the asbestos issue as not all people have been exposed to asbestos. This issue in fact has the potential to dwarf both issues. This issue is the biggest public health issue of our times and possibly the biggest threat to our health that we have ever witnessed in our history.

It is hard to believe that the common use of electricity, up to now, part of the march of civilization and an integral part of our lives can kill… Yet if proper scientific measurements are made of just when electricity becomes “dirty” and causes sickness and death we can lessen the toll. We are all paying for electricity and under certain circumstances, it can kill.

As the use of electricity has increased dramatically over the last 128 years since it was produced, research is showing that these silent fields in our homes and workplaces have contributed significantly to the increases in breast cancer, leukaemia, and brain tumours.

What is also concerning is that these silent fields are also being linked with such diseases as Alzheimers, some diseases of the central nervous system, prostate cancer, depression and childhood leukemia in the children of women who have worked in industrial sewing machine factories.

Miscarriage is also indicated in regard to these silent fields. Exposure to these silent fields can also result in a deformed foetus which then aborts. In time exposure to high measurements of these silent fields will also be seen to affect sperm quality: effects on children have already been observed as far back as the 1980s.  Malformations in the children of fathers exposed to high measurements of these silent fields have been observed as far back as the 1980s. Intentional studies are not permissible as it is unethical to expose humans to high measurements of these silent fields for long periods for the purpose of science. 

I was informed about the breast cancer cluster at the ABC TV studios in Brisbane, Queensland two years ago now.  The count was 12 cases of breast cancer in a small area – in the newsroom.  I knew immediately why this occurred.  It was the electrical environment. Two years later and the count now stands at 17 cases of breast cancer.  The experts deemed the breast cancer cluster to be workplace-related but no factor could be found.

This incidence reminded me of the Capalaba Post Office incident in Brisbane where 53 people were diagnosed with serious or fatal diseases in the one small workplace.  A signed letter from the state government office stated the most likely explanation for the various diseases among current and former staff is that their occurrence is a co-incidence: there was no workplace factor that could explain the unusual collection of diseases and health complaints.

Also in July 2006 the brain tumour cancer cluster in senior staff at the RMIT University in Melbourne came to my attention. Professor Mark Ellwood the director of the top Government cancer agency - the National Cancer Control Initiative – was quoted as stating coincidence was the most likely explanation: another co-incidence? We have excessive cancer cases and cancer clusters in our schools and workplaces. The Concord Hospital in Sydney and just last month a hospital in Adelaide are reporting possible breast cancer clusters also.

Breast cancer usually strikes one male in every 100,000 but there have been instances worldwide where there have been clusters of male breast cancer in workplace situations due to the electrical environment. A study of male breast cancer cases in a small office found high measurements of these silent fields.

I have this knowledge as several years ago my neighbours and myself fought to prevent a sub-station from being built close to our homes.  It was during my research and the 10 day court case with the power company that I learnt about the fields from powerlines, substations and electrical appliances and equipment. 

The history indicating these silent fields in regard to any disease process has been littered with destroyed careers and tarnished reputations.  The moves to discredit the research are saddening.  We must educate ourselves on this new language and pass this information onto others.

As early as 1960 it was recognised that a new leukaemia agent had been introduced into the UK and the US in the 1920s and 1930s.

In the western world it was back in 1979 that scientists in America discovered a connection with these silent fields from electricity and childhood leukemia.  Today there is now little doubt that exposure to these silent fields causes childhood leukemia. 

In 1982 these fields were also being indicated in brain tumours and breast cancers. Studies now strongly suggest that these silent fields are a risk factor for heart disease.

In August last year a scientific review of over 2000 studies was released which is supportive of what my book brings attention to.  In my book the scientific language has been broken down for all to understand.

Information from this scientific review that is included in the book includes:

• there is little doubt that exposure to these silent fields causes childhood leukaemia.
• there is some evidence that other childhood cancers may be related to exposure to these silent fields.
• children who have leukaemia and are in recovery have poorer survival rates if their exposure to these silent fields are above a certain level.
• there is strong evidence that long-term exposure to these silent fields is a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease.

Asbestos was first discovered as a cause of illness around 1900 and not recognized as an occupational hazard and illness until 1936.  Yet it took until 1995 for a conclusive ban on its manufacture, import and use.

In regard to these silent fields the scientific evidence is now sufficient to warrant regulatory action.  But we know how long this can take to filter across the world and reach the people. We cannot wait one minute longer in starting to lessen our exposure to these silent fields. We must try and lessen our exposure to these fields and educate those who do not know but need to know about this issue.

We all need to protect ourselves, but especially our young children.  We must now add another precaution for when one is pregnant.  The balance of evidence suggests that childhood leukemia is associated with exposure to these silent fields either during early life or pregnancy.

I spoke to a lady called Michelle a few weeks ago whose brother leased an office where the health of the staff deteriorated when they sat in a certain area in their workplace.  This is quite commonplace.  It is happening all over the world.  We all deserve to have the information at hand so we can claim back our basic right for our health and the truth.

We need to get the information out via a public awareness campaign to ensure people are living and working in an electrically clean environment

The Soviet Union Government has been protecting its citizens from these silent fields since the 1950s.  The Swedish Government implemented measures in the 1990s.  The Swedish Government operates on the presumption that these fields are carcinogenic. 

Australia is severely lagging behind in this area.  There is no legislation in place in Australia to protect its citizens from these fields.

When staff fear they are involved in a cancer cluster or excessive cancer cases there is no organisation for them to contact.  This is another reason for founding the DONNA FISHER SILENT FIELDS Inc. to educate the public and apply effective solutions.  The measuring process can be quite simple.

Profit and power have been put before the people. I have had to face people who are hell-bent on denying justice to the citizens of Australia and who continue to deny that “dirty” electricity is a threat to the health and well-being of people. These are also people who in my opinion practice the highest form of deception and in so doing put people – thousands upon thousands - at risk.

This is our time for change.  We can do this together in an intelligent and assertive manner.

I am for one up for the challenge and as I look ahead I see my walk will be filled with adventure, surprises and victories as now I have already been joined by highly skilled, capable and dynamic people.  Already there is strong leadership in place.  Linda Neophytou – Treasurer and Alenka Wallace – Secretary and I have proved to be a cohesive team that is passionate and committed.  Linda and Alenka are women of considerable intelligence, integrity, dignity and grace who both are passionate advocates for the rights of the people in the community.  I thank them for the considerable time and energy they have spent in the formative period of the DONNA FISHER SILENT FIELDS Inc. and for their continuing support.

My vision is CLEAN ELECTRICITY FOR AUSTRALIA BY 2020. The campaign is to clean up electricity and doing it through creating greater awareness, making accessible the evidence to prove the case and then to seek appropriate legislation in the parliament to regulate electricity so that it can be safe for us and future generations.

We need to demand that our unions protect the people.  In time I would like the power companies to work with us not against us.  My mother always said I was a dreamer but dreams do come true.

We need people with lots of energy, time and be able to help us educate the public.  We need members who will help us distribute the book which contains the educational information for the people.  Every family in Australia needs this book.  We need people with lots of energy and time to help us raise funds to ensure we can inform the public so every family is safe from the threat of disease from these silent fields.

We need members who will arouse the honour of the people so people will donate money to help us educate the public.  Donations to DONNA FISHER SILENT FIELDS Inc. are fully tax deductible.

In time I would like to direct money for research - especially to get to the bottom of the breast cancer effect and also for noninvasive treatments for breast cancer using these silent fields.  These fields can harm but with intention they can also heal.  Healing by these silent fields is the way of the future.  The FDA in the USA is aware of this paradox.

The aims of DONNA FISHER SILENT FIELDS Inc. are to:

1. Educate the unsuspecting public.
2. Advise the public, especially our children, ways to lessen exposure to these fields.
3. Workplace reform.  Have workplaces checked for “dirty” electricity.
4. When workplace situations are found send qualified independent consultants who have been screened by our Incorporation to fix the problem. Sometimes it is quite simple and inexpensive.  Buildings don’t have to be demolished in most cases, if not all cases.
5. Inform the leukaemia foundations and organisations in Australia and work with them.  Information packs have now been recommended for the public to lessen exposures in the UK yet this will be a slow process.
6. Inform the brain tumour foundations and organisations in Australia and work with them.
7. Inform the many breast cancer foundations and organisations in Australia and work with them on this important health issue.  The Breast Cancer Fund in the USA supports that regulatory action should be implemented at the federal level in regard to this public health issue.  Our breast cancer funds in Australia and most countries do not address this serious health issue at all.
8. Alert Diabetes organisations to investigate the effects of 'dirty electricity'.
9. Take steps to look at the feasibility and costs to implement legislation.

The Sunday Telegraph in March earlier this year reported that some Australian charities are spending up to 80 per cent of their income in fund raising-costs. DONNA FISHER SILENT FIELDS Inc. seeks to minimize operating costs so more funds may be available for educating the public and raising funds for research.  At the moment we are all volunteers donating our time to this cause.

As you can see I am very passionate about this issue.  It is imperative that we act now.  So much is at stake.  I remember that day back in 1999 when Energex sent me their first letter stating that the research is inconclusive.  The evidence is alarming and has been for many years.  In actual fact, our first order is from a power company employee.    Now I wonder?………………
